Forum on sustainable energy solutions

W Churches & Son Ltd leads forum on sustainable energy solutions

Leading figures from Winchester area architects’ and chartered surveyors’ businesses came together to discover more about sustainable energy solutions at a continuous personal development (CPD) event led by W Churches & Son Ltd.

The event, supported by Daikin, was held in the Jane Austen Suite, part of The Wessex Conference Centre at Sparsholt College.  It aimed to show an audience of more than forty interested delegates the tangible benefits of installing sustainable energy solutions into domestic and commercial buildings.

The UK already has one of the most ambitious CO2 emission reduction targets in the world and there is a clear and growing demand for increased use of sustainable technologies, so this CPD event was both timely and topical.  Top of the discussion list was air source heat pumps, a low-temperature heating system that has proved highly popular in Sweden and Norway.

This intelligent system uses proven refrigerant technology but applies it in a way that is appropriate for the 21st century.  It takes energy already present in the air and converts it to energy to heat homes and water.  Its smart technology means that it can operate year-round, even when outside temperatures drop below freezing – as happened earlier this year in the UK.

Steven Collins from Collins & Jarvis LLP said:  “This informative and professional seminar certainly educated me on the subject matter, that I feel is sure to have a strong future in the UK.”

Ian Paxton, Churches’ Operations Director said:  “W Churches & Son Ltd is very excited about the developments in the sustainable energy arena.  We welcome the opportunity to work in partnership with architects and surveyors to ensure that Winchester and the surrounding area make a real contribution towards reducing CO2 emissions in the region.  On top of that, Churches’ recent accreditation in the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) means that we can use our expertise to provide our customers with access to significant government grants to help with installation costs for sustainable solutions.”

The event raised some interesting questions and there was a lively discussion enjoyed by all.

Notes to Editors

Supported by the Department of Energy and Climate Change, industry and non-governmental groups, the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) is helping to make a substantial contribution to cutting the UK's dependency on fossil fuels and carbon dioxide emissions.
