Ground Source Heat Pumps Made Easy
Ground source heat pumps work by burying pipes in the ground where, beneath the surface, the temperature remains constant.  Heat is extracted by circulating water that has been “heated” from the warmth of the soil over the heat pump.  Special refrigerants transfer heat even at very low temperatures, so that heat can be generated even in the middle of winter – making it a very popular option for homes and businesses in Scandinavia .  This clean, green energy solution is used to heat water for radiators or underfloor heating systems and can also be used to pre-heat water before it is fed into a more conventional boiler.

Financial Benefit
A ground source heat pump can cut fuel bills quite noticeably – saving the average home up to £160 per year and will pay for itself quite quickly.  This is particularly noticeable if it is replacing an electric, oil, Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) or coal heating system.  In addition, it is an excellent investment as the ground source element is extremely reliable and once installed, should last for up to 50 years.

Environmental Benefit
Replacing an oil boiler with a ground source heat pump will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by around 540kg every year and it is very clean, releasing no other pollutants.  Heating a home or business with a ground source heat pump is also a much more efficient use of power as it cuts down on wasted electricity.
